Thursday Night's Read -- Taken by Midnight by Lara Adrian

Taken by Midnight by Lara Adrian!  Excellent read!  In the Alaskan wilderness ex-trooper Jenna Darrow's life was coming to an end. She was ready to end it all herself and then the nightmare began.  Trapped and tortured by a creature out of horror movies she's brought to the edge of death and then the whispered words, "Life ... or death?  You choose."  Dragged back from the edge of darkness she awakes to find herself in the Order's infirmary.  What had she done?  What had been done to her?  The only anchor she had was the dark and velvety voice that kept telling her it was OK now.  She was safe.  But was she?  Her mind kept telling her it was all a nightmare and she needed to get out, away.  Her heart kept hearing that voice saying she was safe and somehow making her believe it.

Brock stood by Jenna's bedside gently stroking her neck and face.  He drew away her pain all the while fighting the growing desire to touch her, hold her, protect her.  Huh?  What was he thinking?  Jenna was human and a liability and he, he was a warrior with too much behind him to let anything or anyone get to him.  So why was he having such a hard time convincing his heart that being close to her, touching her was wrong.

Both of these characters had baggage.  Soul wrenching, heart breaking baggage from their past the neither could forgive themselves for.  Yet somehow they had to figure out a way to work through this in order to help end the impending threat of Drago's reign of terror.

A fantastic story that grabs you from the first page and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way to last.  Those who love vampires and love and heroes will surely find Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed Novels an excellent addition to their reading libraries.  Strong characters and well written story make this a wonderful read.
