Foster child. Teenage whore. Now a veterinarian, MacKensie's turned her life around, but the scars remain. She saves her affection for the animals who never judge or scorn her, but it's time to get out, move on from her past in Iowa. So, she arranges a vacation exchange to job hunt in Seattle.
Although the house is lovely, one room is locked. Her years in foster care have given her two ‘gifts’: a neurosis about locked doors and the ability to open them. After she gets into the room, she's appalled…and intrigued. Chains and manacles, whips and paddles, odd benches with straps…
When Alex returns home days early and finds MacKensie draped over the spanking bench in his locked dungeon, he’s furious. But her wariness arouses his protective nature and curiosity, so he strikes a deal to keep her close—she’ll act as his submissive in exchange for a place to stay and help finding a job.
He’d planned to use the veterinarian to deter an ex-girlfriend, not replace her, but with MacKensie’s compelling mixture of strength and vulnerability, the little sub slides right into his well-defended heart
This was an excellent read. I really enjoyed the two main characters, Mac & Alex. They were fantastically real in portrayal and the magic between the two of them was great. I kept looking at the % done on my Kindle because I knew something big was going to happen, I really wanted to read how it unfolded but I didn't want the story to end just quite yet! To see Dickerson get his comeuppance was something and the way people backed Mac, gave their friendship and loyalty was a tear-jerker. So many places in this story had my eyes tearing up and then it would turn around and I'd be laughing out loud. The pace was just right, keeping me glued to the pages waiting for the next spike, the next shock, the next moment of tenderness. I definitely enjoyed this and I can honestly recommend this to anyone who enjoys and good read.
Stories like this carry me away, let me see into other windows of life. Movies on paper, even electronic paper, with more detail, relying more on the imagination, putting faces and voices to the characters. Watching them unfold and become three dimensional. Those are the kind of stories I really enjoy and this was definitely one of them.

I've been on a Cherise Sinclair kick the past week. I started by reading her CLUB SHADOWLANDS story. This was a freebie from All Romance as their 8th Day of Christmas Free Read (courtesy of Loose Id). Reading about Master Z and his pretty little sub Jessica was so much fun. Jessica is this lively little lady that find herself somewhere she never really thought she'd be and finds it not only interesting but exciting. A totally different outlook about herself that forces her to grow, trust and eventually love the enigmatic and domineering Master Z. This was a very fun and enjoyable read. I laughed and cringed and even felt Jessica's embarrassment and her growing pleasure as she opens herself up to a very different life style.
This one had me hooked and I knew I'd seen others at Amazon and Loose Id. I immediately went out and purchased the other three books. DARK CITADEL (Masters of the Shadowlands Book 2), BREAKING FREE (Masters of the Shadowlands Book 3) and LEAN ON ME (Masters of the Shadowlands Book 4). Each one of these books brought out new characteristics of familiar faces, new stories, new joys and new tears. Each one had full-fleshed characters and the stories were compelling and strong. Each one pushed the boundaries just a bit more and each one left me smiling at the end knowing that I'd come back to these people in the future and like all good books they would welcome me like old friends and fill my mind with images and voices.
I still have MASTER OF THE MOUNTAIN and MASTER OF THE ABYSS to read by Cherise and I'm very much looking forward to enjoying them
