End of the Year!

Wow! It's been almost 3 months since I last posted here.  Time has flown and I honestly don't know where it's gone.  Sometimes it just seems to disappear and I feel I've lost something along the way.

Well, I can say that I have been reading! OK, no shock there.  What I have done is Re-Read a large number of books.

I've always been one to re-read books.  Books to me are like friends or very special places that I love to go back and re-visit from time to time.  Some people tell me that once they've read a book its done.  That's it, over, never gonna read it again.  Why should I?  I already know what's going to happen.

Me? I'm just the opposite.  If I read a book, especially a series, and I find characters & plot that make me laugh and cry I want to come back to that.  Experience those feelings again and again.  Usually for me it's about a year or so between reads but occasionally it's only a few months between.  I have favorite authors and favorite books & characters that I go back to year after year.  Yes, I skip over some scenes, simply because that while they were important on the first read, I find them less so on the subsequent reads.  I move on to the parts that elicit the emotions, the drama that I find so fascinating.  Anne McCaffrey's Brain & Brawn Ship series, starting with The Ship Who Sang is a wonderful example.  Another would be the Harper Hall Series in Anne's Dragon Riders of Pern series. Awesome characters, great emotional content and tears and laughter to fill many an afternoon.

These past few months I've been doing mostly re-reads of a number of favorite books.  I went back and started reading (switching to Audio Books) the Deeds of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon.  This began when I came across the two newest books in that series that picked up after the original three.  I joined and picked up the first three books in digital format and I began listening to them on my drive to and from work.  I have an hour & a half drive, each way and this is an excellent time to listen to books.  Once I finished them I went and bought the two most current books in audio even though I had them on my Kindle and rounded out the series as it is now.  The next book, Echoes of Betrayal, comes out in February 2012.  I love these characters and the story is fascinating.  Emotions run high and I always find myself laughing, crying and just enjoying myself, renewing old acquaintances and falling into the story and the characters lives all over again.  At the same time I was re-reading the Honor Harrington series by David Weber.  Here is a series with so many strong characters.  Characters that draw you in, twist you up and wring you out with the emotions the stories evoke.  This is one of my favorite series.
Once I finished Elizabeth Moon's series I moved on to the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward. I love these books and the characters are so memorable.  Their stories are gripping and exciting and make for a great audible read on my drives.  I'm getting ready to start on the 6th book of this series on Audible next week.

I've also re-read a number of my new favorites. Stories by Radclyffe, C. P. Rowlands, Julie Cannon, R. E. Bradshaw, Erin Dutton, Susan X. Meagher, Linda Hill & Georgia Beers just to name a few and most of which I've posted here before.

I've been working with my art using Vue lately again.  Seasons change and I love making images that show those changes.  I try to imitate some of the scenes I come across on my rides and some I remember from when I was growing up.  I've also found the next quilt top design I want to make.  I love log cabin blocks and this one just jumped out of the magazine and grabbed my attention.  Now I just have to find the right fabrics and I'm read to make my text top.  I like that.

One of my Christmas presents this year was a gift card to  That made me smile!  My wife knows my weakness for new books and she knows how much I love to read!  I've bought a number of books and I've actually read quite a few since Christmas too!  Awesome goodness!  LOL!

From This Moment On by P. J. Trebelhorn
True Confessions by P. J. Trebelhorn
Pitifully Ugly by Robin Alexander
Mending Defects by Lynn Galli
Before It Stains by R. E. Bradshaw
Burning Reflections by Rachel Carrington

Just to name a few.

I also purchased a collection of 26 Zane Grey Novels that I read as a teenager and that I still have fond memories of.  Love my Kindle!  All of the stories for under $2.00!
I picked up the 1st 4 of Fred Saberhagen's Dracula Series:
An Old Friend of the Family, The Dracula Tape, The Holmes-Dracula File & Thorn.  I loved these books and I've somehow misplaced my copies.  Now I have them on my Kindle and I'm looking forward to re-reading them.

New books are coming out the first few months of next year.  Books by Lynsay Sands, J. R. Ward, Kerrelyn Sparks & Elizabeth Moon.  I can't wait!  All favorite series of mine and I can't wait to get my hands on them.

Well, this is my last update for the year 2011.  I hope everyone has had a wonderful year and found and enjoyed many, many great books, new authors and awesome characters.

I'm really looking forward to what will come in the new year!

Here's wishing everyone a wonderful and most Happy New Year!

See you in 2012!

Sexiest Vampire Alive (Love at Stake) by Kerrilyn Sparks

2 Oct 11
Sexiest Vampire Alive (Love at Stake)

I finished this story in one long solid read.  I love this series and this chapter of it definitely did not disappoint.  Gregori has always been a bit of a misfit and I've been kind of curious how this would all pan out for him.  This story is fantastic, adventure, excitement, murder, mystery and of course the love story.  This is one of my favorite vampire series and Kerrelyn Sparks is one of my favorite authors in this genre.  You really shouldn't miss this series.

The secret is out . . .Vampires do exist! When a video reveals to the world that vampires live among us, it’s up to “young” vamp Gregori Holstein, VP of Marketing, to persuade the U.S. government to declare the video a hoax. But first the president wants a favor, one that requires Gregori to spend forty-eight hours in very close contact with the First Daughter. Abby Tucker would rather spend her nights in a lab than attend her father’s state dinners. She’s dedicated her life to finding a cure that will save her dying mother and needs only two more ingredients. To find them, she’ll have to venture into the most dangerous region of the world—with a vampire. Her Armani-clad escort may be Undead, but he still makes her heart race. And the greatest danger won’t be the predatory hordes lying in wait for them; it will be her undying desire for the Sexiest Vampire Alive.

West of Tularosa by Louis L'Amour

1 Oct 11
West of the Tularosa

West of the Tularosa by Louis L'Amour is a collection of short stories from the magazines he used to write for when starting out.  I gave it 4 stars and I truly enjoyed every story in this collection.  I recognized several shorter stories that he later developed in full books.  Louis L'Amour is a very unique writer in western stories.  Most of his work is based on real places and you can find almost every place he mentions in them on a map.  His characters are a combination of real people and made up characters that interact in real history.  He makes you feel as if you are there, right amidst the action and being based on true history in many ways you even feel a part of everything going on.  Truly awesome stories and characters larger than life.  I love his stories and I've bought every book I can find by him.

Tiger by the Tail: On the Prowl by Kaye Chambers

27 Sept 11

Tiger by the Tail: On the Prowl

Tiger by the Tail: On the Prowl by Kaye Chambers was a very enjoyable read and I gave it 4 stars. This was a short but very good story with very strong characters.  I'd like to read more on these characters.

The resulting consequences are far more than she ever imagined.

Moon Dance (Vampire for Hire #1) by J.R. Rain

24 Sept 11

Moon Dance (Vampire for Hire #1)

I've finished Moon Dance (Vampire for Hire #1) by J.R. Rain and gave it 4 stars. It was a very enjoyable read.  Vampires and werewolves can be a great combination.  This story was interesting in that the Vampire is a mother and wife and yet still manages to take care of her very human children.  I liked this twist and it made for a very interesting story.

Mother, wife, private investigator...vampire. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire. Now the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head.

Heart of Gold

I finished Heart of Gold by Lacy Williams and gave it 4 stars. Very much fun. Very enjoyable read.
I've always enjoyed a good western.  Louis L'Amour, Max Brand, Zane Grey ... I like a good story and strong characters.  I can't say that enough.  I really like character driven stories.  This was definitely one of those.

Wyoming, 1902--Ranch foreman Charlie Welch suspects his boss's daughter has returned home with purely selfish motives--she wants money. After being estranged from her father for years, Opal Bright hopes her homecoming will result in both reconciliation and a solution to help the orphanage she sponsors back home in Omaha. When Charlie and Opal find themselves mixed up with a ragtag group of bandits and trapped in an abandoned gold mine, they must risk everything to survive... including their hearts.

When Gargoyles Fly by Lori Devoti

When Gargoyles Fly

When Gargoyles Fly by Lori Devoti was a very fun and enjoyable read and gave it 4 stars. Short fun read. This was a good story, well paced and interesting.  I find myself enjoying the quick reads I find for my Kindle.  Short stories that are interesting and fun and yet don't cost me an arm and a leg.  I find myself expanding my reading choices now that I've got the Kindle, reading stories I might never have read or even seen.

Loved by Morgan Rice

Loved (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals)

Loved (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals) by Morgan Rice was a good read and I gave it 4 stars.
This is the sequel to Saved and picks up with Caitlin and Caleb on the run from vampires of both sides. I'm enjoying this series. While I don't consider this one of my "must read" series it is interesting and enjoyable.  Nice mystery and puzzles in this story and the characters keep on evolving and growing making it interesting to see how they adapt as the story progresses.

In LOVED (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin and Caleb embark together on their quest to find the one object that can stop the imminent vampire and human war: the lost sword. An object of vampire lore, there is grave doubt over whether it even exists. If there is any hope of finding it, they must first trace Caitlin’s ancestry. Is she really the One? Their search begins with finding Caitlin’s father. Who was he? Why did he abandon her? As the search broadens, they are shocked by what they discover about who she really is.But they are not the only ones searching for the legendary sword. Turned by Morgan Rice

18 Sept 11

Turned (Book #1 in the Vampire Journals)

Turned (Book #1 in the Vampire Journals) by Morgan Rice was a fascinating read and I gave it 4 stars. This was a fun read and I really enjoyed seeing how the characters reacted to the strange twists and turns that suddenly over took their lives.  I liked this one and I'll be slowly getting the others in the series.

In TURNED (Book #1 of the Vampire Journals series), 18 year old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. Guardian Vampire by Lauralynn Elliott

18 Sept 11

Guardian Vampire

Guardian Vampire by Lauralynn Elliott was a good story and I gave it 4 stars. I liked the characters and the plot.  I enjoy characters that make me want to like them, that intrigue me and draw me into their lives. This was a very enjoyable book and kept me busy with all the little twists and turns the characters kept taking.  Definitely worth the $0.99 at

Fury took over her good sense as she stared at him. “Daddy, no!” she said angrily.

Bound by Night by Amanda Ashley

18 Sept 11
Bound by Night

Bound by Night by Amanda Ashley.  This is an excellent story and wonderful characters.  I gave it 4 stars. I love paranormal stories, especially Vampires.  Amanda Ashley is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed all of her vampire stories.  The characters are strong and believable and the stories are always fun to read.  If you've read other stories by Amanda Ashley then this one will  not disappoint you.

Ghosts of Winter by Rebecca S. Buck

18 Sept 11

Ghosts of Winter

I finished Ghosts of Winter by Rebecca S. Buck & gave it 4 stars. This was an amazing, warm, & touching read.  I liked the way the stories of those who had owned Winter Manor before were woven into the current time story of Ros.  Having lost everything that meant anything to her, her love, her family, her job, Ros has just about reached the end of her rope.  Then she finds out she's inherited Winter Manor.  Suddenly she sees a way out. A change that could Turn her life around. She packs her belongings into the back of her old car and heads away to Winter Manor and a new start.  A start that changed her life in ways she's never dreamed of.

Erotic Dance by Livia Dane

16 Sept 11
Erotic Dance (Indecent Affairs)

Erotic Dance (Indecent Affairs) by Livia Dane, Katie Knish et al. & gave it 4 stars. This was a very very short, sexy & fun read.  Just a short erotic story that was simply fun to read. This is one of several I've read so far about these five roommates and I have to say they were all fun reads.  Just a quick short story that is a nice break from longer, deeper & more involved stories.  If you like this kind of story its worth the $0.99 at Amazon.  Enjoy!

Take five girls, five sexual fantasies, one night of drinking, and you get the idea of a lifetime: a blind date where all bets—and clothes—are off.Aubrey is the second girl in the group to turn thirty. Even with that grave mistake, Aubrey won't deny the flicker--okay flame--of heat that arises when he touches her. She's out to prove that clumsy is the last thing she is.

Class Reunion by Linda Hill

16 Sept 11

Class Reunion

I finished Class Reunion by Linda Hill & gave it 4 stars. Wonderful, lovely & a very enjoyable read.
This is a great "what if" story.  What if the person you fell in love with years ago and broke your heart still wanted you after all these years?  What if the geek that everyone picked on back in high school turned out to be a beautiful & talented woman who harbored a silent crush on you all those years ago? What if all you had thought you wanted, all the dreams, the desires turned out to be exactly what you didn't want now.  What if letting go and moving on was the only way to find yourself and you true love?  I like stories like this.  Everyone always has 'what if' scenarios that drift through their heads from time to time.  This was a very well written story with full bodied characters that made you want to know ... what if?

Jennifer Moreland decided to attend her high school reunion in the hopes of freeing herself once and for all from the devastating power of past heartbreak. But when she comes face to face with her first lover, she is overcome by a rush of desire that threatens to ignite the dangerous flames of rekindled passion...Sheila Hoyt's reckless spirit and burning sensual need have always spelled trouble with a capital T. But her bedroom eyes still beckoned with the promises of past ecstasy and her lush body belied a history of cruel betrayal. She wanted Jennifer, the way she wanted her before. And Sheila always got what she wanted. Heather O'Brien has come a long way from her ugly duckling days when ... more at

Eternal Seduction by Jennifer Turner

14 Sept 11

Eternal Seduction (A Darkness Within)

finished Eternal Seduction (A Darkness Within) by Jennifer Turner & gave it 4 stars. Very enjoyable.
This was a good read. A bit different but very good and the characters were excellent.

After living on the streets of New York City for over a decade, Logan Ellis admits her perceptions might be a little skewed. But twisted or not, there’s a satisfying irony in watching a well dressed vampire stand in the middle of a ghetto alley, windblown trash scraping small circles near his feet. What she finds even more intriguing, is waiting for him to decide whether or not he’s going to kill her. Kerestyan Nelek hasn’t quite made up his mind. As the Lord of New York, he can’t allow a homeless drug addict, whose memories are packed with knowledge of vampiric existence, to run free in his city.

Veronica and the Vampire by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

11 Sept 11

Satisfying Her Tastes (Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas)
I finished Satisfying Her Tastes by Keri Ford & gave it 4 stars. Fantastic! I really like this series!
Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas is a wonderful series.  Fun, light and a real joy to read.  Every book so far has been so much fun. It keeps you laughing and crying and really wishing they were longer and itching for the next story to come out so you can get your next fix.

Rebecca Gabel was accused of being a bad girl and she discovered life was easier (and more fun!) to live up to the reputation than try to deny it. A Very Vampy Christmas: From Sugarplums & Scandal by Kerrelyn Sparks

8 Sep 11

I finished A Very Vampy Christmas: From Sugarplums and Scandal by Kerrelyn Sparks and gave it 4 stars. I love Kerrelyn Sparks. Her vampires are wonderfully crafted characters that are easy to identify with. Very human so to speak.  Vampire love stories along the same lines as Amanda Ashley & Lynsay Sands.  Very fun to read, very emotional and great story telling.  The characters pull you along with them as they discover themselves and find love in some of the strangest places.  This is a great story.

Maggie O'Brien is thrilled when she lands a starring role on the Digital Vampire Network's hottest soap opera, As the Vampire Turns. Doesn't hurt that her leading man is Don Orlando de Corazon, the greatest lover in the vampire world! But who is Don Orlando really? Nobody knows, not even Don Orlando. As the couple sets out in search of his mysterious past, "home for the holidays" takes on a new meaning when the recently-turned vamp discovers his own Christmas miracle.

Indelible Heart by Marianne K Martin

4 September 2011 --

I finished The Indelible Heart by Marianne K. Martin and gave it 4 stars. An awesome, moving story.
This was an excellent story.  This is the sequel to Love In The Balance.  People deal with tragedy in many different ways.  Some take it and move on, not dwelling on things they can't change.  Others let it eat away at them, turning to drink, drugs or self-destruction.  This story shows how close friends each deal with the murder of dear friends & family.  Marianne Martin does a wonderful job of showing how every decision we make can affect everyone we come in contact with. This is a story of love, devotion and emotions. A healing of old wounds.

Twelve years ago, Charlie Crawford shot dead his two lesbian neighbors. Now he's terminally ill and requesting early release from prison. Back then, Sharon and her friends fought to bring him to justice. Now she has to find the strength to fight again.

Kings of the North by Elizabeth Moon

3 Sept 2011 finished Kings of the North (The Deed of Paksenarrion) by Elizabeth Moon and gave it 5 stars.

This book carried more excitement and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through.  After reading Oath of Fealty I immediately downloaded Kings of the North to my Kindle.  Getting back in to this series I couldn't wait to see what happened next.  This is an awesome story and I loved every minute of it.

Picking up with Kieri still having misgivings about getting the elves & humans to cooperate, getting his council to agree on a defensive troops and trying to find out why his grandmother, the ruler of the elven kingdom was ignoring him.

Dorrin, Duke Verrakai, is still working to clear out the evil left by her family, healing land & people alike.  She's finding out things about her history that both confuse and scare her and yet she forges ahead trying to help those her family terrorized and clean the foul stench of blood magic from the land.

Arcolin is discovering that the thieves he's been hired to remove are more than they seem.  An old enemy from the south is gearing up and getting ready to move north and west sure he has the right to rule over all.

Mikeli is once again saved from assassination and he begins his rule facing new threats, making new alliances and finiding that many things taken for granted are not all that they seem.

Daring rescues, chases, fights, assassination attempts and finding old enemies are not what they believed, even friends and allies are keeping secrets and hidden in-fighting is working against them.  Yet even with all this, Kieri is finding new strengths, new powers, new emotions that surprise himself and everyone around him.  He's becoming the king the Lyonyan's always believed they needed.  Much to many's dismay.

There are more twists and turns in this story and every one brings new excitement, new challenges & new insights into what is and what was and what is yet to come.  Fascinating writing, exciting reading filled with all the suspense and drama you could want.

August 28, 2011 finished Oath of Fealty by Elizabeth Moon & gave it 4 stars. Awesome series, fantastic read!

I fell in love with this series back in 1991 when I read the first book in The Deed of Paksenarrion: Sheepfarmer's Daughter.  This story picks up after the last book in the Deeds of Paksenarrion when Kieri has come to Lyonya and is accepted as being the true heir to the throne.  Young prince Mikeli is being confirmed as the new King of Tsaia and Dorrin suddenly finds herself asked to assume a position she never wanted and never dreamed of having to face.  Kieri is finding that getting the humans & elves to work together isn't as easy as it should be.  The humans are so used to peace they have no concept of defense in case of attack and find the idea abhorrent.  Young prince Mikeli is suddenly forced to face the dangers of becoming king when he is attacked and several others are killed by a  Verrakaien in guise of a trusted friend.  Dorrin, one of the senior captains of Kieri's old command finds herself thrust into the unenviable position of having to assume responsibility for her families lands and people when they all come under the penalty of death for treason against their king.  And in Kieri's old Dukedom, Captain Arcolin suddenly finds himself in charge and possibly in line to be the next Duke.

To those who have read and enjoyed the other books in Paksenarrion's world this book will bring back old friends and new enemies.  Lines of friendship & respect are crossed, friendship is stretched, new friends and allies are made and yet there lies a deeper evil and fear that presses hard against these new changes.  For me it was like slipping back into a well known and liked world, renewing friendships and eagerly wanting to know MORE! (smile) I really like series like this. The original books draw you in and you hate that it has to come to an end.  Then you discover there more and it all opens back up and jump at the chance to see what's going to happen next.

This is an excellent series and I would heartily recommend you read the original Deeds of Paksenarrion first.  This new set can be read separately but the back story is so rich in details and history that I feel you would be missing a lot by not starting at the beginning.

Currently Reading: Oath of Fealty by Elizabeth Moon

I am currently reading Oath of Fealty by Elizabeth Moon. This is the 1st book in a series to follow up the Deeds of Paksenarrion series. Book 2 is Kings of the North and book 3, Echoes of Betrayal: Paladin's Legacy, will be coming February 21, 2012. This is such a great series and a fantastic cast of characters. The story is exciting and gripping and the characters make you want to really get to know them.

It's been awhile since I last read about Paks and her trials and yet after only a few sentences I'm right back in the thick of things, re-acquainting myself with familiar faces.  This particular story picks up right after Kieri Phelan is acknowledged as King of Lyonya and has just made his trip to Lyonya to take up his crown.  Arcolin had been left to watch the keep and guard the borders.  He was not expecting the message that comes telling of Kieri's birthright and asking him to take over the Dukedom.  Nor was he expecting the intrigue he found when he went to Prince Mikeli to seek permission to take a contract in the south to keep the money flowing to support the Dukedom as they had when Kieri was in charge.
Someone wants Prince Mikeli dead.  The Verrakaien are openly defying their Prince, using forbidden mage power and treason is in the air.

This story grabbed my attention from the first page and so far is just as exciting as the first books in Paksennarion's series.  I'm really looking forward to the other two books.  Kings of the North is in my cart at Amazon and Echoes of Betrayal is on pre-order.  Now back to reading!!

Falling for Grace by Maddie James

I finished Falling for Grace by Maddie James and gave it 4 stars. This was a fun read.  Grace has spent the last 10 years building up her store, Romantically Yours. She has a wonderful group of friends but she's still alone and not really looking to end that any time soon.  She'd loved once and life took a twist that shattered her dreams, both for the love she had so unexpectedly found and the ballet she had spent her entire life working for.  She ran away from her previous world and now she's very content with the new life she's built. She needs some extra money coming in and someone has just shown some interest in the other half of her building.  Carson Price is a man in need of a change.  With his 6 yr old daughter Izzie he's ready to give up his law practice that keeps him away from his daughter and start new.  He stumbled across Graces' building and it's exactly what he needs to start fresh.  What he doesn't need is a beautiful landlady who captures Izzie's heart and makes him begin to feel again when that is the last thing he wants to do.  Where Grace ran from her life, Carter is running to a new life.  When their paths cross nothing seems to work the way they expect.  Will Grace run again or will Izzie manage to break the ice surround the heart she's kept walled up for over 10 years.  Can Carson open his heart again or will his past experience sour him against what both he and Izzie need most.
This is a wonderful story, funny and tender and it keeps you going right from the start.

Life Is But A Dream by Cheryl Shireman

I finished Life is But a Dream by Cheryl Shireman & gave it 4 stars. Great story, awesome characters!  What do you do when everything you know is suddenly torn from under you and the people you built your life around suddenly don't need you any more?  This is the situation that Grace Adams finds herself in when her daughter sets off to college and husband suddenly distances himself from her and leaves her floundering in uncertainty and self doubt.  This is a story of self discovery and re-awakening.
This is an awesome story told from Grace's point of view that tells of loss and despair and a rediscovery of herself, finding a strength she didn't realize she had.  Excellent story, fantastic characters and very moving and believable story.

Angels and Manners by Cynn Chadwick

I finished Angels and Manners by Cynn Chadwick and gave it 4 stars.  This was a very good read.  Two women from very different backgrounds and with very different outlooks on life fight to provide for their children and themselves in Section 8 housing following divorces that tore their entire lives out from under them.  Carrie Angel thought she'd be in and out of Section 8 in as little time as possible.  Several years later she's still there and fighting to get her Master Carpenter's license.  Jen Manners has never had to do for herself and suddenly finds herself without a house, without a job and with no idea what to do next.  A chance encounter in Social Services with Carrie helps her get her feet under her again.  Two very unlikely friends who manage to help each other get what they both want and need.  A new beginning.  Excellent characters, well developed story  make this a compelling read.

The Cottage by Gerri Hill

I finished The Cottage by Gerri Hill last night and gave it 4 stars.  It is an excellent read. Very emotional, very sweet & heartbreaking at the same time.  I generally don't like to read stories like this but this one was a great read.  Then ending had tears streaming down my face.  I loved the characters.  They came to life and it was such a sweet story.  Two women, Jill Richardson & Carrie Howell meet by chance at the park.  Both are married and have children and both are disillusioned with their marriages.  They strike up a conversation that builds into a deep friendship.  They find something in each other that is missing in their lives.  Will their friendship be enough to satisfy the emptiness in their lives?
This is a wonderful story and you can get the print version at and the e-version is available at

Love Waits by Gerri Hill

I just finished Love Waits by Gerri Hill and it was such a great story.  Ashley Pence and Gina Granbury were high school sweethearts and first loves.  Ashley had it all, she was beautiful, well-to-do and a member of the cool crowd in school.  Gina was tall, thin and knew that to get into college she desperately needed a scholarship.  Good thing she was one heck of a basketball player!  An unlikely match that blossomed into a love so strong and deep.  But no one knew.  That just wasn't in the cards.  They made it through high school and into college and there, it all blew up.  Now, twenty years later, Ashley is a lawyer and Gina, a graphic artist.  On the 20 year high school reunion they finally come face to face again.  Each of them harboring hard feelings and a hurt that just won't let them be.

This story is told in flashbacks and while I don't normally like a story like that, this one was so fascinating that I couldn't put it down.  You get to see the building of a friendship & love from the first tentative touches through the first bloom of true love while at the same time seeing the aftermath of a breakup that shouldn't have happened.  Both of them are so traumatized by this they go through their lives searching for that special someone but at the same time walling themselves away from anything that might be able to ease their hurt.  Can they find that special something, that spark again or will the pain and mistrust of 20 years keep them apart.

You can't help but ache for them.  Looking in from the outside it is so easy to see how they refuse to allow themselves to heal.  This is a wonderful, touching story and a great read.  I highly recommend it.

You can find the e-book version at Bella Books.

Love's Abiding Spirit by Syd Parker

Sunday I finished Love's Abiding Spirit by Syd Parker.  This was a very lovely book.  An excellent story with a bit of history thrown in and fantastic characters.  Soren Lockheart lost her child when her love and the mother of little Olivia decides she doesn't want her daughter to be brought up in a lesbian relationship.  Devastated and denied even the small comfort of seeing their daughter she loses all drive and hasn't touched her guitar or written a song in the two years since their divorce.  Her agent invites her to spend time with her in her vacation home in Georgia.  In a crazy move Soren puts a bid in on an old Georgia house and packs her bags moving away from all her pain and trying start fresh.  The house definitely needs some TLC and the contractor that shows up at her door stirs emotions that Soren had long thought buried too deep to see daylight ever again.  Merritt Tanner has her own demons to live with and yet she cannot deny the attraction she feels the moment she sets eyes on Soren.  To top it off Soren feels she's not alone in the house.  The spirit of the original owner's daughter is still there and pushing Soren to dig deeper into the history of both the house and the young woman who lived there.

This is a wonderful story and I gave it 4 stars.  Excellent characters and a great feel for their lives, their emotions and their heartbreak makes this a great read.

Immediate Possession by Syd Parker

Just finished Immediate Possession by Syd Parker.  This is the 2nd book of hers that I have read and again I was very happy with the story.  In this story Reagan is in real estate, owns her own company but hasn't had much luck in the personal relationship department.  She hires a new sales person and has an immediate attraction to her but ... she's straight and has a boyfriend.  She ends up falling for her when the woman comes on to her and then having her heart stepped on and dumped in the process.  She swears off any woman not definitely on her team and positively single.  Darcy is a beautiful young woman in a bad relationship, a fiance she doesn't love and she doesn't have the strength to get out of it.  A chance meeting at a bar throws these two women together.  Reagan knows Darcy is bad news but just can't quite manage to pull away.  Darcy feels an attraction to Reagan she doesn't know what to do with but it beats anything she's felt with anyone else.  A chance meeting, a quick kiss and a hasty retreat has both women wondering and confused.  Then Reagan's friend asks her to help out a college mate who wants to buy a house and sell the one his fiance currently has.  For a friend Reagan agrees and then finds out that the house she's to sell belongs to none other than Darcy.  The ups & downs, the fears and hurt that these women go through trying to avoid the feelings they have for each other makes for a really good story.  I gave it 4 stars.

Secrets of the Heart by Syd Parker

I finished reading Secrets of the Heart by Syd Parker this morning.  It was a very good read! I love the characters and the interplay between Jude & Chase was absolutely great.  The characters were strong and very believable.  The story was intriguing and kept me wanting to know what happened next.  This is the story of Chase, airplane pilot who all in the space of a few days loses her boyfriend, job & best friend.  Tessa who had everything she ever wanted for too short a time and lost it all in the blink of an eye. Jude, lawyer, self-made woman who refused to let anyone get too close.  Love 'em, leave 'em and on to the next.  This is also a story of family and how sometimes family is much more than those you were born to.  A great story with fascinating characters and the wonderful up & down roller coaster ride of emotions that truly makes it a great read.  I gave Secrets of the Heart 4 stars and I recommend it to anyone looking for a really great story of love & determination to keep moving on.

Kara's Moon by Gerri Hill

I visited Gerri Hill's web site last night and discovered a series of short stories in her free read Fiction section.  Wow ... these were all absolutly great reads.  The Zeiko Place was an eerie but very cool story.  Young love, misunderstanding, heart break and years lost.  This was a very interesting read.

Romance Or Something Like It was funny and absolutely great to read. What some people go through to get what they want and need.

The Eve, that was good. I loved the twists in that one and the characters were good and solid.

My favorite though was Kara's Moon. That story was gripping, touching, it had me laughing and had tears running down my face at the end. The characters were fascinating, the story compelling and what an emotional roller coaster.

I really enjoyed reading all of them.  You really should take the time and visit Gerri's site.  You won't be disappointed.

Never Ending by Marianne K. Martin

I finished reading Never Ending by Marianne K. Martin yesterday and gave it 4 stars.  It was an  excellent read and I truly enjoyed it.  Sage Bristo is a very strong character and the story was one that hooked you from the start and made you want to keep reading to find out more!  Stuck between the proverbial rock & hard place, Sage Bristo has to put her priorities in order.  Love, life, family & tradition ... each of these has a place but will she have to sacrifice love to get everything else to work?
Excellent characters, wonderful story and a great read.

Paradise by Kate Sweeney

I finished Paradise by Kate Sweeney and I gave it 4 stars. It was an excellent read. It captured my attention from the beginning and it kept drawing me in deeper as I went along.  The characters were few, the detail was excellent and each one pulled you further into the tale.

Paradise is a story of "What if ..."  Began in the early 1950's it takes the discovery of DNA and uses it to ask "What if ... they tried to create a superior person based on DNA splicing, isolation and deep training."  There are many twists and turns to this story and of course the government is involved.  The best laid plans always manage to backfire on those trying to control them.

This is the story of Graham Sheridan & Genevieve Gastineau.  Two very different women who fulfill a need in each other that transcends logic.

Calm and lonely intellectual Graham Sheridan lives alone at the top of a mountain seemingly content to live her life in isolation.

Genevieve Gastineau is fiery red-head, reporting for a small town paper and living a somewhat frustrated life with an in-and-out,  self-centered girl friend.  She gets a tip about a woman living alone at the top of a mountain for the past 20 years and sees a chance to re-start her reporting career.

What happens when these two get together is what makes this story so much fun to read.  I highly recommend this story.

By The Howling (Charlotte Diamond Mysteries) by Olivia Stowe

Finished reading By the Howling by Olivia Stowe.  It was a fun, interesting read but I found it too short, and devoid of details that would have made it a much better read.  The characters were interesting but too much was left out to really pull them into focus.  Charlotte & Brenda, and even Brenda left so much in question, came in nicely but the others were too threadbare to really make an impression.  I kept having to try and remember who was who and it was rather annoying.

As I said the story was good but not really fleshed out enough.  The characters were too thin, very little back ground and what there was wasn't enough to really make them real.

I also have the 2nd & 3rd book of the series (at $2.99 & $0.99 they're hard to resist) and I hope it gets better and adds a bit more detail as it goes on.

No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I read No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon the other day and it was fantastic.  I really enjoy her Dark-Hunter/Dream-Hunter series.  I've been reading these books off and on for years and they have always grabbed my attention right from the beginning.  I love a good series.  I enjoy coming back to familiar faces & places and meeting new characters that expand and compliment the others.  I didn't read this series in order.  I hopped from one to the next as I found a book.  Being overseas a lot made picking up a series some what of a challenge at times.  This one managed to stick with me.

No Mercy is the 15th book in the series.  This is the story of Dev & Sam.  According to the summary on Sherrilyn Kenyon's web site:

No Mercy – Summary

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

These are two wonderful and exciting characters.  The depth of their losses and the pain they carry creates deepand painful lines in the fight to find something good in their lives.  They need each other more than they realize and yet fight the attraction with everything they have in order to spare the other more pain.  But love refuses to be held at bay and eventually nothing can stop the need and desire they have for each other.  Not even the possible end of the world.

Awesome reading!

Here's a link to all of the Dark-Hunter books in reading order.  Enjoy!!

A Quick Bite (w/bonus material) by Lynsay Sands

Finished A Quick Bite by Lynsay Sands.  This isn't the first time I've read this book.  Actually it's about the the 4th or 5th time.  I really enjoy reading the Argeneau series. The characters are funny, real and about as diverse as you can imagine.  The stories are fun to read, exciting and intense in their own way and can carry you along with them from the first page.  There are 15 books and several short stories in this series and each one has made me laugh & cry and care about this crazy family.  Its fun getting to know all the characters and being able to go along with them as they grow and change and develop.

I highly recommend this series and this book A Quick Bite is actually the first in the series. Lissiana and Greg are just so likeable and fun.  Their attraction is almost immediate and the things they go through trying to protect each other while not admitting to any feelings is endearing and at time comical.

Here's a link to Lynsay Sands site and her Argeneau series.  I hope you can enjoy this series as much as I have.

A Bite Before Christmas is coming in November in an anthology with Jeaniene Frost and then in January 2012 comes Under a Vampie Moon.  I can't wait to get my hands on these!

Retribution (A Dark Hunter Novel) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I finished reading Retribution (A Dark-Hunter Novel) by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I gave it 5 stars.  I really enjoy this series and the characters are always so strong yet vulnerable.  In this one we get a good look at William Jessup "Sundown" Brady and his love for Matilda Aponi (Abigail in the latest re-incarnation of spirit).  A timeless love that followed the spirits of three people down times endless road, re-incarnation to re-incarnation.  Each one growin, changing and building on the past. Also in this one I really liked hearing the Native American histories and legends.  That is always fascinating and Sherrilyn Kenyon had done a wonderful job in tying those into this latest nove.  The is a great story that I truly enjoyed and I can highly recommend.

If you've never read any of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter/Dream-Hunter series I suggest you start at the beginning with Fantasy Lover and work your way through.  Once you start it will be very hard to stop!

Finished "Mill River Recluse" by Darcie Chan

I finished Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan on Friday.  It was a good read and everything really pulled together at the end tying things up nicely.  Well worth the time to read and not what I would term a standard romance. It covered close to 60 years and there was mystery and romance and small town interactions enough to really keep you on your toes.  I gave it 4 stars.

Currently Reading

Currently I'm reading "The Mill River Recluse" by Darcie Chan.  It's an interesting read bouncing back and forth between what is now and what was.  I'm about a quarter of the way through this and the story is good.  There's quite a few characters to get to know and each one gets touched on a bit at the start.  It gets a bit jumbled at first but it begins to come together as you get into it.  So far I really like it and the characters are growing on me.  It's becoming a good read and for only $0.99.

Here's what the Product Description from Amazon says:

Product Description

Disfigured by the blow of an abusive husband, and suffering her entire life with severe social anxiety disorder, the widow Mary McAllister spends almost sixty years secluded in a white marble mansion overlooking the town of Mill River, Vermont. Her links to the outside world are few: the mail, the media, an elderly priest with a guilty habit of pilfering spoons, and a bedroom window with a view of the town below.

Most longtime residents of Mill River consider the marble house and its occupant peculiar, though insignificant, fixtures. An arsonist, a covetous nurse, and the endearing village idiot are among the few who have ever seen Mary. Newcomers to Mill River--a police officer and his daughter and a new fourth grade teacher--are also curious about the reclusive old woman. But only Father Michael O’Brien knows Mary and the secret she keeps--one that, once revealed, will change all of their lives forever.

Midnight Embrace by Amanda Ashley

I finished Midnight Embrace by Amanda Ashley on the 1st of August.  I was a fun read but was very slow to start for me.  I was about 1/3 the way in before it actually grabbed my attention.  The characters were good, the story interesting & I gave it 4 stars. Normally her books grab my interest right from the start but this one just seemed to start out slow.  There was enough there to keep me reading but there wasn't anything at the start to make me "want" to get back to it once I put it down. Now this could just have been me.  This was a period piece and that is an unusual read for me.  Normally the characters grab me and drag me in making me want to know more right from the start.  This one took more time for the characters to develop enough to make them interesting enough for me to really want to know more about them.
It turned into a very nice read and I did enjoy it very much.  I'm glad I kept going.
