An Invitation Series book: Alayna's Training by Jennifer Cole

An Invitation: Alayna's Training  An Invitation: Alayna's Training

Alayna's Training [An Invitation 1]
Series: An Invitation; Next Book: Ariel's Pet by Qwillia Rain
Genre: BDSM Erotic Contemporary

A business card left behind by a regular in her restaurant intrigues Alayna Valerian. While visiting the Web site scrawled on the back, she finds herself submerged into the fetish world of BDSM. She learns the man who has been eating in her café for six months--and sets her libido on fire--is a Dominant, as well as co-owner of an establishment that teaches the art of mastery and submission. As her research deepens, she recognizes her submissive nature and decides the ruggedly, distinguished Logan Abram is the Dominant to show her the pleasures to be attained at the hands of the right man.

Logan Abram is a Dominant without a submissive. Five years ago, he walked away from the lifestyle to deal with a tragedy he had yet to come to terms with. Long-denied Dominant needs surge to the surface, demanding to claim the curvaceous co-owner of the eatery he frequents. Alayna Valerian’s natural submissiveness calls to his Dom on a primal level. All of his control is threatened when Alayna arrives on his doorstep seeking to explore her submissiveness.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: BDSM theme and content.

This was an awesome book! The characters fairly leapt off the page they were so real. The tension, the passion, the frustration was intense. Reading the story of Logan and Alayna was truly an emotional roller coaster ride. Laughter, tears, sorrow ... what a wonderful experience. Jennifer Cole brought Alayna so vividly to life it was amazing.  Her desire for Logan, her willingness to do what ever it took to get him to notice her was so gripping so heart breaking at times.  Seeing Logan suffer as he denied his attraction to Alayna was engrossing. I could feel his anguish and frustration. It was so hard to watch him try to deny to himself what was so obvious to everyone else.

I truly enjoyed this story and I'm off to purchase the sequel Ariel's Pet by Qwillia Rain. I also saw another book in the An Invitation Series on Jennifer Cole's website under her Works In Progress tab titled. Shendah's Seduction. I'm looking forward to that one. Shendah was a secondary character in Alayna's Training and what I gathered about her while reading this story makes me definitely want to see more.

I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves romance and happy endings as well as a touch of BDSM to spice things up.

All Hallows Heartbreaker by Delilah Devlin

All Hallows Heartbreaker  All Hallows Heartbreaker

Book 1 in the My Immortal Knight series Love bites!  Emmaline Harris meets the perfect man at a Halloween party. After he rescues her from the unwanted attentions of another party goer, she succumbs to his kisses and spends an evening engaged in wicked-sexy lovemaking. Sure she's just a one-night stand, she tries to exit gracefully, but soon find she needs Dylan's special skills when her world is turned upside down by a blood-drinking killer and his gang who target her for their next meal. Dylan O'Hara only wants a night of passion to slake his sexual needs, but finds Emmy is a full-bodied, red-blooded siren whose innocence and humor draws this Master vampire like a moth to a red-hot flame. When Emmy attracts the attention of a serial-killing vampire, Dylan vows to protect her, but he fears he'll lose Emmy once she discovers her "Dracula" has real fangs!

This was a very enjoyable read.  The action was quick paced, the story fun and exciting and the characters were very interesting.  Dylan appears hard and cold yet at first sight he can't deny the electric connection he feels to Emmy.  Emmy is like a breath of fresh air, so open and so unable to keep quiet for any reason.  She had me laughing right from the start.  This was a very pleasant read.

True Heart: A Red Hot Winter Story

True Heart: A Red Hot Winter Story  True Heart: A Red Hot Winter Story

I just finished reading True Heart and it was a wonderful read.  Awesome characters! Gruff, sweet, caring and oh so believable. This was joy to read. Laughter, tears, deep characters, what more can one ask for from a story?!  Definitely worth the time to read!  Another great story from Delila Devlin!

True Wyatt’s hands are going to be full enough keeping the herd alive through the dead of winter. The last thing he needs to hear is that his brother Lonny has rented out their isolated hunting cabin to a reclusive writer—especially a sassy, disaster-prone brunette. Who has time to babysit a city girl until spring?

With a deadline looming, erotica writer Honey Cahill is looking forward to six distraction-free weeks to finish her next book. However, between Lonny’s flirty sensuality and True’s hard-edged intensity, the Wyatt brothers set the stage of her imagination for a winter of wicked delights.

The fire that destroys the cabin, though, is as real as it gets. Forced to seek a bed under True and Lonny’s roof, the temptation to experiment—all in the name of research, of course—is overpowering. One night in their arms doesn’t feel like enough; it feels like more. Particularly with one cowboy who fires all her cylinders…

Warning: It’s a Devlin ménage—expect men with stamina and not an ounce of mercy to behave like sex gods, and the lucky woman to love every minute of it. A little domination goes a long, long way…

The Soldier's Mate by Cooper McKenzie

The Soldier's Mate (Siren Publishing Classic)  The Soldier's Mate (Siren Publishing Classic)

This was a very enjoyable short read.  Shape-shifters, military, romance and love.  The characters were fun and very real.  I just wish it was longer as I was just getting into them when it ended.  Short, sassy and sexy ... I recommend this one for anyone that enjoys short stories.  Well worth the time.

The Boy Next Door by Nicole Austin

Click here to view larger image

During the day, Cathy Markham is a sweet, innocent, slightly frumpy hometown girl with a heart of gold. At night, however, she is replaced by Cat—a tough as nails, independent, sexy bar owner who is a master at playing the boys. Her goals and dreams are simple—run her bar, gain the security of owning her own home, and live life her own way.

Ex-Navy SEAL Lieutenant Blake Carlisle returns to the only real home he's ever known to find that everything has changed. His old friends have grown up, moved on with their lives. Even the awkward little girl who used to idolize him has matured in some very wonderful ways. Maybe the very things he's been searching the globe for have been right at home all along.

They say you can never go home, but home is where his heart is. If so, then maybe Blake can finally grow up, adjust to civilian life, and find peace. On this journey he will do whatever it takes to make Cathy's dreams a reality as she fights to discover the real woman behind the roles she plays.

This was a very nice read.  It was interesting right from the beginning.  It grabbed my attention and held it all the way through.  I really enjoyed the characters and the conflict between Cat (Cathy) and Blake was something to see.  It took me awhile but the emotions were there too, kind of hidden at first but coming on strong as I got into the story.  It had me laughing and crying, especially at the end.  The electricity between Blake and Cathy was right there in plain sight right from the beginning.  It grabbed me and pulled me along with it, telling me to read between the lines, catch the nuances in their characters as they turned it on and off fighting the inevitable.  To see the passion that Cathy had hidden away and watch it blend her two sides together was really something else.  Watching her bloom into the sensual creature once she let go and lowered her barriers was really enjoyable.  This was a really fun read and one I can definitely recommend.  If you like this story you need to read Nicole Austin's Corralled Series from Ellora's Cave.  Hot and sexy with characters you can really sink your teeth into!

Maison Domine: A Binding Ties Story by Skylar Kade

Maison Domine: A Binding Ties story Maison Domine: A Binding Ties story  Maison Domine: A Binding Ties story

Organic chemist Lara Brunner is at loose ends. Since childhood, her life has been focused on work and achieving success in her field. Only now, weeks away from her tenure review, she realizes she's pushed herself too far. Casting about for a way to release her stress-crazed body from career tension, she visits a BDSM retreat, hoping a weekend of sexual submission will do the trick.

Inducting her into the lifestyle is her at-work nemesis—Jaxon Greene. But the sinful intent she encounters in Jaxon's sexy eyes makes her heart race with desire...and fear. Gorgeous men like him don't go for zaftig academics like her. Once the fantasy weekend is over and real life returns, he'll forget all about her.

Jaxon is blindsided by his intense attraction to Lara. The more time he spends with her, the stronger their invisible bonds become. Bonds that are stronger and more permanent than any knot he can tie. He's not normally into converting vanilla women to his lifestyle, but something makes him want to cast his inhibitions aside and claim her for his own.

First, though, he has to free her from preconceived notions of proper sex…and love.

I enjoyed this story.  The characters were fun and the story moved along well.  Unfortunately I had to read this one is bits and pieces (not so unusual since I read many books this way) and it just didn't stick with me.  It was enjoyable and I slid easily back into the story each time I picked it up but I had the hardest time remembering where I was (and that is unusual).  Some stories you just know you aren't going to like or that they just aren't what you're in the mood for or they just don't work.  This was NOT one of those stories.  It did work, the story and characters were good but it just didn't click for me.  Now since I did like the story and the people I'm going to have to say it was me.  I was a bit under the weather when I read this and running on fumes I was so tired that I'm sure this was why I couldn't wrap my head around this one when I put it down.  Having said that it was me I can say it is definitely worth a read.  Even in my out of it state of mind it still stayed with me enough to want to finish.  I liked it, I really did but I wish I had read it in a better state of health. I'm sure I would have had a more glowing review.  As it was it did take my mind off of not feeling well.  That alone made it worth my while.

The Master's Prize  The Master's Prize

What happens when a conservative girl sneaks in to a BDSM club for a look and makes an impression on the Master trainer? He pulls out all stops to claim her for himself.

A radio charity auction gives Mitch Collins just the opportunity he was looking for. When he claims his prize, a mind-blowing kiss confirms all his fantasies and leaves him determined to win her trust.

The Master's Prize was a delightfuly fun read.  The characters were strong enough to carry the story and it kept me smiling all the way through.  It was a short read but very enjoyable and well worth the time to read!  Lots of fun in this one.

Marry Me by Jo Goodman

Marry Me by Jo Goodman is a fascinating read. With characters so real they came alive, romance & danger in a captivating & exciting story I couldn't put down.  To be honest I started this book with some doubts as the first few sentenced didn't exactly grab my attention.  Having said that I should probably say that with the way I read going into a story cold generally makes me hesitant.  Even when I know the author or know some of the characters from before I still drag my feet.  I generally read something that I've read a blurb on or heard about and immediately jump into it so I'm already eager to get into the story.  With Marry Me I had heard it was a good read and put it in my TBR pile but it took me about a week to get to it.  I started it, hesitated and started it again.  Once I actually got a few pages into the story I was honestly hooked.  It wasn't flashy or dramatic but the character interaction between Cole and his sister had me smiling and I knew I had to find out more about them.  The people of Reidsville were such interesting individuals I couldn't help wanting to meet more of them.  With each new character the story bloomed and I could almost see the town and surrounding area as it teemed with life.  Like unwrapping an onion, peeling back layer after layer the more I read the more I wanted to read.  Each character was fascinating and each brought something new and interesting to the story.  I laughed and I cried and I so wanted to shoot certain characters just on principle!  I highly recommend this story!  Now I'm going to have to go back and read the previous story about the residents of Reidsville, Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman.

Marry MeMarry Me

Rhyne Abbott is fierce, brave, and used to a life of isolation on her father's spread on the outskirts of Reidsville, Colorado. But when, overcome with sickness, she collapses, she knows she must return to town if she is to have any hope of recovery. Only there is no place for her but the new doctor's home, and he wants more than just to heal Rhyne. He wants her hand in marriage.

Doctor Cole Monroe's hands are already more than full with his orphaned little sister to look after, and yet somehow he can't resist the magnetic pull of Rhyne's bewitching eyes—or her tempting kiss. But convincing her to trust him won't be easy. For Rhyne's heart needs as much tender care as her ailing body. And the only cure is the thing she most fears: to let herself fall in love...

Brock's Hellion by Nicole Austin

Brock's Hellion by Nicole Austin.  What can I say about this other than it is exactly what I've come to expect from Ms Austin and her absolutely fascinating Corralled series.  The characters in these books are deep and captivating and so real you feel you know them by the time you finish reading their story.  Beginning with Savannah's Vision, Ms Austin takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and hot cowboy sex that is impossible to put down.

This story is about Brock and Tink and what a tempestuous ride this one was!  Like oil and water these two can't spend two minutes together without being ready to throttle each other.  Brock can't stand the smart-mouthed, blonde haired pixie that strikes fire from him with simply a glance. Yet he can't help but feel there's something buried deep inside this little woman that calls to a part of him he's buried so very deep and that he's afraid to let out.  The one thing he can't deny is the raging lust that they both seem to feel.  What he needs to do is seriuosly avoid this little vixen and yet he find himself getting drawn deeper and deeper into her net as he tries to reach that soft, submissive girl he only catches glimpses of when she lets her guard down.

Tink can't stand Brock.  He's obnoxious, demanding and over-bearing and he rubs every nerve she has raw with just a look.  Yet there's something inside Brock, something he's hiding that draws her like a moth to a flame and as much as she can't stand him she lusts after what only he seems able to give her.  She has to get away and stay away for the sake of her sanity.

This is one heck of a fun read, watching Brock and Tink react to each other like fighting cocks looking for an opening.  You can't help but laugh, cry and want to scream in rage as their story unfolds.  Once you begin it is impossible to stop and I read this one from front to back in one sitting and I just couln't put it down.  These are such very strong and vibrant characters and their stories are so involved and complex that you really hate it when they come to an end.  Even before I reached the end I was looking forward to the next book because I just didn't want this one to stop.

Corralled Series reading order

Book 1 - Savannah’s Vision
Book 2 - Tamara’s Spirit
Book 3 - Jesse’s Challenge
Book 4 – Brock’s Hellion

Book 5 - Riley's Bargain (future project)
Book 6 - Zeke's Awakening (future project)
A book in the Corralled series.

Brock is cool, calm and in control. Except when it comes to the feisty hellion who pushes all his buttons for the sheer fun of watching his patience snap. Far worse than the intense desire to choke her is the alarming, all-consuming compulsion to tie Tink to his bed and fuck her into next week.
Tink is no wimpy damsel waiting for a big, strong man to rescue her or take over her life. Oh, hell no. She does her own thing, her own way, when she damn well feels like it. The last thing she wants or needs is some overbearing man bossing her around. Though she’d like to torture him with pleasure.
One night of explosive passion—starting with smokin’-hot lovin’ involving three men and one lucky woman—pushes Brock’s restraint past the limit. And hidden behind the cold-hearted bitch, he discovers a woman who longs to surrender to a man she can trust.
Come hell or high water, he’s going to be that man.

Baby Don't Lose My Number by Karen Erickson

Baby Don't Lose My Number by Karen Erickson was a very enjoyable read.  Ever since I read the blurb for this book at Samhain Publishing I kept hearing the song by Phil Collins in my head.  Talk about a grab and hook just because I couldn't get it out of my head! *S*  The book proved to be a wonderful story and one I thoroughly enjoyed.  In today's society we practically live for our e-devices.  Our phones especially become a lifeline keeping us in touch with friends, family and the world in general.  This was the case in Baby Don't Lose My Number.

Mia Skinner's job depends on her Blackberry and her boss's ability to contact her 24/7.  He never lets her alone for very long and she has no life as her work takes up her every waking minute ... and sometimes her sleeping ones as well.  Stealing a night out with her friends she surreptitiously sneaks a peek at her phone in the theater and then tries to quickly stuff it back into her purse before her friends catch her at it.  Unfortunately for Mia she misses her purse and doesn't realize it till she and her friends are in a bar across the street.  Frantic with worry her friends get her to dial her own number to see if someone may have picked it up and to her surprise it is answered by the most sexy male voice she's ever heard.

Jacob Miller is recovering from a very severe construction accident. Not one to let anything keep him down he's out taking his sister to see a movie when he finds a Blackberry lying in the middle of the aisle as they are leaving the theater.  About to turn it in to the lost and found the phone begins to ring and he takes a chance and answers it.  He agrees to meet her in front of the theater to return her phone and once he lays eyes on the pretty blonde woman rushing to retrieve her phone he knows she's someone he wants to know better.

The characters come wonderfully alive and you find yourself getting pulled into their lives and dreams and hopes.  This is a fantastic story and it kept me interested and reading long after I should have gone to bed.  A great story and one I recommend to anyone that loves romance and what if stories.

Never press the “ignore” button on love…

Fated, Book 2
In these uncertain times, Mia Skinner’s Blackberry is her lifeline to independence…and a twenty-four/seven chain to her overbearing boss. When she loses it on a girls’ night out, it’s a disaster with pink slip written all over it—until she takes a chance and calls her number. And ends up talking to Mr. Sexiest-Voice-Alive.
The moment Jacob Miller lays eyes on the phone’s beautiful owner, a bolt of lust makes him want to make a sexy mess of her tidy outfit and perfectly straight hair. Which is a good sign. It means he’s almost fully recovered from a near-debilitating construction accident. Perhaps a little horizontal healing will get him back on his feet for good.

As their passion burns bright and hot, a funny thing happens. Mia’s ignoring her phone—and Jake’s the one itching to get back to work. But he’s building a plan that’ll let her hang up on her increasingly creepy boss for good. If Mia’s willing to meet him in the middle.

Resignation by Missy Jane

Solon has admired Darina from afar for almost a year, smiling politely from behind the security desk when he wants to do much more.
He watches her struggle to maintain her composure when the boss’ daughter steals her fiancé, Marc.
With Darina doubting her ability to be loved, and Sol doubting his worth as a viable partner, the odds are stacked against them having more than just hot sex between them, despite their spontaneous and smoking-hot tryst in her office.

When Marc decides he wants another taste of Darina, Sol realizes he’ll fight anyone to keep her…even Darina herself

This was a nice fairly short read that I enjoyed very much.  The characters were nice, believable and sweet.  The story was interesting and it was fun to watch Solon and Darina interact.
Pain in the a** corporate ladder climber dumps sweet and competent girlfriend in order to jump the bosses daughter and wiggle his way into a top spot in the firm.  Hunky security guard with a soft spot for Darina can only watch as things go from bad to worse.  Darina is so out of his league but he can't help but want to protect her.  Then, one moment of weakness on both their parts and something clicks.  Something warm and caring and wonderful begins to grow between them.  Watching the two of them feeling their way around, trying to test the waters, hoping and fearing that the other felt something too made for a lovely read.  This was sweet and I can definitely recommend this story.

More Than Neighborly by Stephanie Adkins

More Than Neighborly is an interesting and enjoyable read. The characters are well rounded and the story is fascinating enough to keep you reading page after page.  This is a good story with lots of laughter and tears and characters you can identify with and care for.  If you're looking for a fun read with lots of intense emotional moments then this is a story you don't want to miss.

How does a woman get past the shock of her fiancé leaving her at the altar—for a man? For Kristen Carter, it involves throwing herself into her job as a journalist and convincing herself that her life is much better without a man in it. That is, until sexy and seductive construction worker Austin McKenzie moves in next door. From the first time she spies him through his bedroom window making love to another woman, she is instantly drawn to him and her voyeuristic tendencies make her crave him in every way.

But Austin’s been around the block—several times. Now he wants the stability that a steady relationship can bring, and once he meets his next-door neighbor he feels he’s finally met the woman for him. The problem lies in turning Kristen into a believer—even after an unexpected visitor turns their world upside down.

Sunshine on Chrome by Lynn Connolly

Sunshine on Chrome by Lynn Connolly is the next fantastic novel in the Cougar Challenge Series from Ellora's Cave.  There are 17 novels, including this one, in the Cougar Challenge series and I have yet to be disappointed!  This story, like all the others is a wonderful, fun and enjoyable read. If you like seeing strong characters in excellent stories then I highly recommend this and all the other books in the series.

In Sunshine on Chrome, successful and strong Lacey Rezanov runs her own cosmetics company.  She's been divorced for over 10 years and her 25 yr old son is rapidly climbing the corporate ladder on his own merits.  For the past three months she had been working very closely with hot, younger, Verill Harper, building an advertising campaign and product line. She doesn't mix business with pleasure but she'd like to make an exception with Verill.  Like always though she just doesn't have the time. After all, her company takes precedence over everything else.

Veril has been having fantasies about the hot, beautiful older woman he's working with but he keeps a very tight rule about getting involved with co-workers and he can't wait till their contract is up because he doesn't know how much longer he can push aside his desire for the sexy woman.  All he has to do is get past her ideas of having to control everything in her life and working herself into the ground.  That and the crazy idea she seems to have about the age difference.

A book in the Cougar Challenge series.

After working with sexy consultant Verill Harper for three months, Lacey Rezanov can hardly keep her hands to herself. And it seems Verill feels the same way. As soon as his contract with her company ends, he has her in a hold she has no desire to break.

Encouraged by the sassy women of the Tempt the Cougar blog, Lacey has the fling of her life with this younger man. They only have a month before Verill is due to set off on an around-the-world bike ride. Can they cram all that passion into a few weeks? No.

Verill wants Lacey more than any other woman he’s ever met, but she won’t agree to come with him. This isn’t just a pleasure trip and he can’t cancel. The heat is turned way up when Lacey poses with Verill and his mechanic Dene at a photo shoot to promo the tour. Even that can’t persuade Lacey to change her mind. Can anything?

Ok - Let's start catching up in 2011 w/ Doms of Dark Haven

DOMs of DARK HAVEN is an anthology of 3 stories by by Cherise Sinclair, Sierra Cartwright and Belinda McBride.  This takes place in Dark Haven, the BDSM club that is mentioned in several other stories by Cherise Sinclair.  Several of the characters are familiar to those who have read her other books, Master of the MountainMaster of the Abyss.  I've reviewed both of the latter books here in my blog and I have to say that I've liked them all.
In Doms of Dark Haven we have Simon Says by Cherise Sinclair.  Master Simon is one of Dark Haven's favorite Doms. He's past the point where eager young submissives stir his interest and has pretty much taken to teaching classes on Domination techniques at the club.  At least until Rona McGregor walks into the club.  Here is a mature, strong and independent woman who fires his imagination and stirs feelings he hasn't had in a long time.
Rona McGregor, her children grown, her divorce decree in hand, she's out to experience life that she feels has pretty much passed her by.  Not that she hasn't lived a good life but she feels she's let some things pass her by and she wants to experience it all.  She has a list and top on her list of things is to experience a different man every time.  No more stuck-in-a-rut relationships for her.  No more than one night per man, non-negotiable.  Until she meets the overpowering presence of Master Simon.  Going to a BDSM club is in her top five things to do but she wasn't expecting to run into anyone like him.  He has her panting, screaming is pleasure and wanting to obey his every command and that just won't do.  After a night of never before felt pleasure she runs from him.  She refuses to be caught in another unsatisfying relationship even though Master Simon sets off so many emotional fires and desires.
Now Simon has to find a way to prove to her that submitting to him is not the end of her freedom but the beginning.

But she responds so beautifully -- so joyously -- under his command, that one night soon becomes two, then three...

Then a missing hiker reminds Jake of his past lover, and he realizes he’s become too involved. He pulls back.

Meanwhile, the watcher on the mountain has rendered his verdict: Kallie Masterson is evil. The sentence: Death.

What can I say about this book other than it was an absolutely fantastic read.  I really liked the characters.  The depths of their fears and wants, the way they came alive on the pages.  It was a wonderful story that kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Kallie and Jake were two excellent characters that tugged at your heat and mind.  The fears, the hopes, the wants of these people, their desire to care, to protect others, their vulnerability was so touching.  I couldn't help but get wrapped up in their lives, their experiences.  After reading, Master of the Mountain it was almost a given for me that I would like this book but once I got into the story it was such a unique experience.  The tears, the laughter, it was the kind of book that pulled you in and made you feel what the characters were feeling.  Wonderful reading and one I highly recommend.
